Meetinghouse Bank Community Events Meetinghouse Bank Co Sponsors with Vargas & Vargas "Bostons Best Neighbor" Award. ![]() Mayor Menino and City Councilor, Maureen Feeney, joined local Dorchester residents on Monday, October 26, to help honor Richard O'Mara as he received the 1st Annual Boston's Best Neighbor Award. "The purpose of the Good Neighbor Award is to honor a community individual who has demonstrated special care, concern, and volunteer hours to make their neighborhood a safer, more pleasant, and a more friendly community for all of the residents, " said Carlos Vargas, of Vargas & Vargas Insurance Co. "This individual may have made contributions to other neighborhoods, projects, or citywide concerns." After a review of the nominations, Richard O'Mara was selected as the first recipient. He was nominated by Jeff Chatlos, Dorchester resident and co-owner of Flat Black Coffee Company, who sent a letter detailing Mr. O'Mara's accomplishments. Mr. O'Mara was awarded a plaque and a $3000 check from Vargas & Vargas Insurance and co-sponsor Meetinghouse Bank. "I can't think of anyone more worthy than Rich O'Mara for this award," said Meetinghouse Bank President Anthony Paciulli. "I'm proud to be a part of such a worthy cause." Vargas & Vargas Insurance Agency, located in Lower Mills, Stoughton and Norwood, has been servicing the insurance needs of Massachusetts residents for over 20 years. Partners and brothers Carlos, Joseph and Mario Vargas operate a socially responsible business, giving back to the community through volunteerism, donations and sponsorships.
First Time Home Buyer Seminar A Success! Meetinghouse Bank held the first in a series of First Time Home Buyer seminars October 27th at the McKeon Post in Dorchester. Based on the strong community participation, the seminar was extremely successful. Meetinghouse Bank President Anthony Paciulli welcomed the attendees. Maureen Moriarty of Mass Housing, the featured speaker, was informative and enthusiastic. The consistent theme of the evening was that now is a good time to buy real estate as prices and rates are both low, and programs are still available that offer little or no money down. Co -sponsors of the event were Vargas & Vargas Insurance, the Law Offices of Thomas J. Williams, Olde Towne Real Estate, and How It’s Done Realty. The co-sponsors were integral in getting the word out about the seminar and encouraging people to attend. Larry Duane won the trophy for "most original car," with his Ford Escort Rally car brought over from Ireland. "Best paint job" went to Fred Jones and his 1957 Chevy. The "People's Choice" awards went to Fred Jones, Frank Fasoli and his 1957 Chevy Convertible, and Robert Ferrini and his 1969 Camaro. "I want to thank everyone who played a part in making this event a success," said Anthony Paciulli, President and CEO of Meetinghouse Bank. "Our employees contributed their personal time to assist, and Connie Barrett, a customer, helped make the day run smoothly." Mr. Paciulli added his thanks to all of the bank's customers and neighbors who helped make the event possible, as well as his family. Ice Cream Smith of Lower Mills provided cold treats for the kids. Attendees enjoyed the hot dogs and every child went away with a balloon. The event was capped off with a free raffle. Winners received gift certificates donated by Cedar Grove Gardens and Lower Mills "Ledge," both local businesses. First Annual Food Drive a Tremendous Success Meetinghouse Bank held its first annual food drive, and we were overwhelmed by the generosity of our customers, employees and local merchants. Local businessman Chris Oroczzo of Milton Hill Sports & Spa offered a free Holiday aerobics class to anyone making a canned good donation. Total donations provided enough food to provide a well balanced holiday meal and a week's worth of food for six needy families in the Community. Dorchester Police Toy Drive Meetinghouse Bank employees donated over 100 toys to the Area C Police Drive's Annual Christmas Party. The happy recipients of books, remote controlled cars and dolls ranged in age from toddlers to early teens. Our employees are proud to play a role in supporting the Community and the efforts of the local police Italian Home for Children Clothing Drive On "casual dress" days, Meetinghouse Bank employees donate one dollar each to wear jeans and a bank shirt. The total donations were then matched by the Bank. We used the proceeds to purchase clothing for the Italian Home for Children in Jamaica Plain. This organization provides services to emotionally disturbed children. This year, we donated many bathing suits, so the children could take advantage of the Italian Home's pool. Meetinghouse Bank Participates in the Home for the Brave mortgage program Meetinghouse Bank has committed up to $ 5 Million in residential lending for military veterans as part of the Home for the Brave mortgage program, announced July 2 by Gov. "The new Op Center represents not only a commitment to the area, but will also enable us to better serve our customers," said Mr. Paciulli. Located behind Meetinghouse Bank's headquarters, the Operations Center houses many of the "back room" functions, freeing up space in the main building for additional customer service. The Open House for the Operations Center, held in conjunction with Family Fun Day, was attended by local dignitaries, including Boston City Council President Maureen Feeney and State Representative Linda Dorcena Forry.
Meetinghouse Bank Employee Actively Supports Lower Mills Library Cheryl Kelly, Meetinghouse Bank Vice President, is an active Friend of the Library. She has generously donated her time to fundraising and community involvement for the Library. She was instrumental in the Bank's contributing $2500 to the Library, which enabled it to purchase a book drop. The book drop has been a tremendous convenience to the Library's borrowers and is used frequently. In addition to this generous donation, Meetinghouse Bank sponsored Game Day at the Library this past summer. Meetinghouse sponsors “Savings Makes Sense” at Lower Mills Library Meetinghouse Bank recently held a “Savings Makes Sense” event at the Lower Mills library. Vice President Cheryl Kelly presented Presidential coins to over 100 children who came to the event. “I’m delighted with the turnout,” said Librarian Jennifer Hawes. In addition to learning about saving money, the children decorated piggy banks with recycled materials. Meetinghouse Bank is an active sponsor of various activities at the Lower Mills Library. Second Annual Family Fun Day Continues Successful Tradition! Meetinghouse Bank held its second annual Family Fun Day this past fall and celebrated the opening of its new Operations Center. Over 300 neighbors, community leaders and customers came to the event Meetinghouse Bank President Anthony Paciulli manned the grill, cooking hamburgers and hot dogs at a rapid pace. A clown entertained the children with balloons, cotton candy and games. Boston City Council President Maureen Feeney stopped by to compliment the bank on their commitment to the community, while State Representative Linda Dorcena Forry praised the new Operations Center. The annual Family Fun Day event gives Meetinghouse Bank a chance to meet and greet their customers and reconnect with old friends. The Bank looks forward to holding the third annual Family Fun Day next year. Meetinghouse Bank Employees Donate Toys to Dorchester Police Drive Bank employees purchased toys for the Area C Police Department's annual Christmas party. The Bank matched the generosity of their employees and pledged to support the event again this year. The police distributed the toys, ranging from dolls to remote control cars, to needy children. Anthony Paciulli Speaks at Pierce Middle School Annual Career Day Anthony Paciulli, president of Meetinghouse Bank, was one of the speakers at the Pierce Middle School Annual Career Day. Lower Mills Merchant Association Elects Paciulli as President Anthony Paciulli, president of Meetinghouse Bank, has been elected president of the Lower Mills Merchant Association. Since being named president of the Bank in 2006, Mr. Paciulli has played an active role in the Lower Mills community. "This is a vibrant and prosperous area," said Paciulli. "We can make it even better by banding together local businesses to create additional opportunities and positive experiences."
